Verbena bonariensis is a perennial grown as an annual in colder regions. Self-seeds prolifically, drought-tolerant and heat tolerant and needs well-drained soil . The tall stalks of the verbena are leafless, can be used in front of the border or the back. Attractive to butterflies. As a self-seeder, it is not aggressive in the Treasure Valley. It is considered invasive in parts of California and in the southeast US.
